KARACHI: City Council to discuss power crisis on July 4

KARACHI, June 30: Describing the persisting power crisis as a conspiracy of the enemies to sabotage the process of development in Karachi, Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil on Friday said that an emergency meeting of the city council had been convened on July 4 to review the situation.

Talking to a delegation of Defence Residents’ Society led by its president Zafar Iqbal, she said that the federal government should intervene forthwith to resolve the issue.

Nasreen Jalil said that damaging underground cables, frequent cases of theft of electricity cables and persistent power outage were part of a well-conceived conspiracy of the anti-development forces.

“Owing to constructive policies of Haq Parast leadership, the development process in the city had accelerated during the last six months.

“The foreign companies had initiated the work on three projects involving over Rs60 billion, but all this was being hindered through creating artificial power crisis and by giving strike calls,” she said.

She contended that such a situation would benefit only those who wanted to get mileage through disruption.

Apprising the naib nazim of problems faced by the Defence Housing Authorities, the delegation told that it received 6MGD water against the requirement of 10MGD.

Nasreen Jalil claimed that the present leadership had made available more than sufficient water to the city and told that the city government had focussed on closing illegal hydrants and streamlining the distribution of water.—PPI
