BAHAWALPUR: A woman and two minor girls drowned in Pakpattan Canal, while another woman suffered injuries when the car they were traveling by fell into the canal after hitting a motorcycle near Chak 407/EB near Burewala on Monday night.

According to the Vehari Rescue 1122 officials, a car driven by Farah Begum (55) first hit a motorcycle and then fell into Pakpattan Canal.

As a result, Mr Farah, along with two minor girls, Marha (4) and Horin (1), who were also in the car, drowned, while another car occupants, Ms Amna, was rescued injured and shifted to hospital.

The Rescue 1122 divers retrieved the bodies of Ms Farha and Marha. Ms Amna is mother of one-year-old Horin, whose body is yet to be retrieved.

No serious injury ws reported to the motorcyclist hit by the car.

SUSPECTS HELD: Sahooka police in Burewala tehsil of Vehari district on Tuesday claimed to have arrested two suspects who allegedly attempted to rape a mentally-challenged girl at a shrine on Monday.

According to the police spokesman, Amiran Bibi took her mentally-challenged daughter ‘S’ to the shrine of Baba Haji Shair for offering a “mannat”.

However, Amiran Bibi left her daughter alone at the shrine and went to the local bazaar for shopping.

Amiran Bibi later complained to police that during her absence, two suspects allegedly attempted to rape S and escaped.

The Sahooka police claim that they registered an FIR and arrested the two suspects – A and M – within a short span of time.
