KARACHI: The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has said it will continue to proceed against illegal construction across the city as such unauthorised structures endanger public safety and place an undue burden on the city’s infrastructure.
Reacting to a Dawn story headlined ‘Illegal construction of extra floors, portions springs up with impunity’ published on April 20, the SBCA on Tuesday released a statement, claiming that it had already undertaken enforcement actions in district Central, particularly in Block-I, North Nazimabad.
It said it has “continued citywide operations against illegal construction in a sustained and consistent manner”.
About inquiries by anti-corruption authorities against certain officials, the SBCA said that accountability and transparency strengthen institutions. “Such proceedings reflect the functioning of oversight and accountability mechanisms and the government’s commitment to transparent governance.”
