PESHAWAR, June 29: Four people were injured when clashes erupted between two tribes over possession of an abandoned refugee camp near Sadda in central Kurram Agency, sources said on Thursday.
The political administration dispatched paramilitary forces from Arawali and Parachinar to quell the disturbance and constituted a jirga to negotiate a ceasefire.
An official said that both sides were still targeting each other’s position with heavy and light arms. He said that a jirga comprising elders and ulema of the area was meeting elders of Para Chamkani and Masozai tribes in Tarali, about 10 kilometres north of Sadda to call a truce.
Sources said both tribes had claimed ownership of a piece of land vacated by Afghan refugees last year.
The refugee camp had been established in early 1980s and the authorities had planned to demolish the houses vacated by refugees.
