KARACHI: Reckless driving claims four lives

KARACHI, Oct 17: A housewife committed suicide in Surjani Town on Wednesday.

The police said that Fareeda, aged 35, mother of five, hanged herself from a ceiling fan in her house in Abdul Rahim goth, Surjani Town. The police said that Fareeda’s husband was a labourer, and he was away on his duty at the time of the incident.

The police could not immediately ascertain the cause of suicide. The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.

ROAD ACCIDENTS: Reckless driving claimed four lives in the city on Tuesday night and Wednesday.

Two men were crushed to death beneath the wheels of a minibus near Natha Khan bridge on Tuesday night. The police said that Abdul Majeed, aged 45, and Ilahi Bakhsh, aged 35, were replacing a flat tyre of their vehicle (KH-7087) near Natha Khan bridge when they were hit by a recklessly driven minibus.

The minibuses of route (JE-7852) Y and (JE-9758) D-7 were trying to overtake each other when one of them killed the two men. The police said that Majeed and IIahi Bakhsh died on the spot. Their bodies were sent to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre for post-mortem.

The police claimed to have arrested the drivers of the minibuses.

A navy official died in a road accident near Keamari on late Tuesday night. The police said that Zakir Younis, aged 24, a soldier of Pakistan Navy, was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident on Jinnah Bridge. He was rushed to Civil Hospital, from where he was referred to PNS Shifa where he died, the police said.

A boy died in a road accident in Liaquatabad on Wednesday.

The police said that an Afghan boy, Mahrooj, aged 13, was run over by an unidentified vehicle while walking across a road near Liaquatabad Supermarket. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

FALL TO DEATH: Two men died when they fell from heights in different parts of the city on Wednesday.

Hospital sources said that Shamim, a supervisor at the Shipyard, fell from a height and died on the spot. The body was sent to Civil Hospital for post- mortem.

The police said that a young man died when he fell from Huma Heights building behind Capri Cinema. The body was sent to Civil Hospital for post- mortem.
