Seyyed Mohammad Mehdi Tabatabaei, a spokesperson for Iran’s president, has lashed out at the “baseless statements of the enemy”, shortly after Trump said Iran had agreed never to close the Strait of Hormuz again, Al Jazeera reports.
“The conditional and limited reopening of a portion of the Strait of Hormuz is solely an Iranian initiative, one that creates responsibility and serves to test the firm commitments of the opposing side,” Tabatabaei has said on X.
“If they renege on their promises, they will face dire consequences.”
He also suggests that Trump’s statements were “aimed at stripping the Iranian nation of their sense of pride for the great victories they have achieved through their resolute defence”.
