KARACHI: Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a policeman working with the Balochistan’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) for his alleged involvement in inter-provincial smuggling of Iranian currency.
South DIG Syed Asad Raza said that on Tuesday the Moachko police arrested Constable Taj Mohammed and three others when they were travelling in a car and recovered 96 bundles of Iranian currency, totalling 9,998,000,000 rials and one licensed 9mm pistol from their custody.
During investigation, Taj disclosed that he was posted at the CTD in Balochistan. He said he collected Iranian currency from a person named Ghazi Khan in Quetta and brought it to Karachi in return for Rs200,000.
“His involvement in illegal currency smuggling constitutes serious misconduct and brings disrepute to the police department,” the DIG said.
He said he has requested the Sindh police chief to move a misconduct report of the arrested policeman to the inspector general of Balochistan police for appropriate departmental action.
