Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has received a telephone call from US President Donald Trump, Qatar’s Amiri Diwan has said in a statement, to discuss the latest regional and international developments “in light of the rapidly escalating tensions in the region”, Al Jazeera reports.

High on the agenda was international maritime security and the stability of energy markets and global supply chains amid competing blockades of the Strait of Hormuz.

The emir has stressed the importance of intensifying international efforts to prevent further escalation in the region.
