Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK Mohammad Faisal is “hopeful” that there will be a second round, or more if required, of peace talks between the US and Iran.

“We have to take a step back and look at it with careful consideration, there’s so much going on,” he tells Sky News. “But the message, which is consistent and very strong, is that peace is the objective, Pakistan is facilitating [and] good things are expected.”

Faisal adds that Pakistan has been able to facilitate the talks due to its relationships with both Washington and Tehran.

“Iran was the first country to recognise Pakistan in 1947. We have a very special bond with the Americans, which has transcended the last 50-60 years, and we have had partnerships with the Americans,” he says.

“We are in the right position to bridge the gap because we have the relationship, very effective embassies [and] contacts with both the leaderships, hence it happened,” Faisal adds, referring to last weekend’s talks.
