US oil price falls 5pc on hope for Middle East de-escalation

The main US oil contract has fallen by 5 per cent, on hopes of a de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East war, AFP reports.

The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) has fallen 6.2pc to $92.94 for May delivery, while the main international benchmark Brent North Sea crude has slipped 3.77pc to $95.61 a barrel.
