China’s President Xi Jinping has called for the national sovereignty of countries in the Middle East and Gulf to be “respected” as he outlined proposals for maintaining peace in the war-torn region, Chinese state media reported according to AFP.

“The sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of the Gulf countries in the Middle East should be sincerely respected,” Xi said, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
