LAHORE: The Punjab Council of the Arts has increased its cultural and social activities across various divisions, organising events ranging from literary tributes and art competitions to regional cultural celebrations.

At the Multan Arts Council, a literary reference and Mushaira were held in honour of noted poet Saeed Sajid. The division also paid tribute to late drama director Manzoor Sandhu through a condolence reference.

The DG Khan Arts Council has recently emerged as a vibrant cultural hub, actively promoting local art and literature. It hosted a three-day conference on Khwaja Ghulam Farid, inaugurated by Commissioner Ashfaq Ahmed Chaudhry. The event featured scholarly discussions, a Mushaira, art exhibitions, and a painting competition. Prizes were distributed by MPA Muhammad Hanif Khan Pitafi.

In Sheikhupura Arts Council, a condolence reference was organised for late poet Syed Salman Gillani, attended by prominent literary figures.

In Lahore, the head office, hosted a session by Dr Muhammad Javed Ahmed on “Sufism and the Modern Age,” highlighting the role of spiritual practices in mental and physical well-being.

To encourage creative expression, the Sargodha division of the council announced the “Colours of Peace” painting competition, inviting artists to register by April 20, with prizes up to Rs100,000.

Looking ahead, the Rawalpindi Arts Council, in collaboration with the Pothohari Adabi Baithak, will organise “Pothohar Culture Day” on April 14, 2026. The event will feature a Mushaira in the Pothohari language, chaired by Rehman Hafeez, with participation from poets across the region.

Executive Director Mehboob Alam said that the council was committed to promoting Punjab’s rich cultural heritage by engaging youth, supporting artists and organising meaningful cultural activities in all divisions. He termed such initiatives vital for preserving traditions while fostering creativity and harmony in society.
