MARDAN, June 27: District Nazim Himaytullah Mayar raided a bookshop on Bank Road and recovered 60,000 ‘takhtis’ (wooden writing boards), which were provided to the education department by the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) free of cost.
The NCHD had provided 60,000 takhtis worth Rs0.05 million to the education department free of cost for primary schools in Mardan dsitrict. But, they were sold in the market by the contractor, the sources said.
Acting on complaints the nazim raided a bookshop and recovered a large number of takhtis.
The recovered takhtis bore the stamps of the NCHD, sources said, adding the city police station had lodged a report against the contractor and owner of the bookshop and started investigation.
Both of the accused got bails before arrest soon after the registration of the case.
When contacted, the bookshop owner said that these items were not illegal because the takhtis had been rejected by the education department, therefore, the contractor sold it in the market.
