KARACHI, June 27: The town nazim of Shah Faisal, Mohammad Imran, on Tuesday announced a balanced budget of Rs359.367 million for the next financial year with a total development outlay of Rs118.846 million.
The town has estimated its revenue receipts for the next fiscal year at Rs359.367 which include Rs180 million to be received from the Sindh government under the head of matching grant, Rs50 million as its share of property tax, betterment and conservancy charges from the city government, Rs36 million from trade license fee and other internal sources.
Its other sources of income for the fiscal 2006-07 include Rs10.760 million on account of deposit works and securities, Rs10 million balanced amount from the city government, Rs50 million water/sewerage and KBCA, Rs10 million as its share from rural octroi and a grant of Rs12.607 million under the head of SDSSP.
A similar amount of Rs359.367 has been earmarked for meeting the town’s next financial year’s expenditures, including Rs108.086 million which comes to 32 per cent of the total budget for undertaking uplift works and Rs10.760 million for carrying out deposit works and security, etc.
On the non-development side, Rs92.779 million (26 per cent) have been earmarked for establishment, Rs73.842 million for contingencies and Rs73.900 million for repairs and maintenance.
Highlighting the salient features of the budget, the town nazim said that a major allocation of Rs25 million had been made for roads and footpaths, followed by Rs16.138 million for parks and playgrounds, Rs15.460 million for the construction and improvement of buildings, Rs15 million for the on-going uplift works, Rs12.607 under the head of SDSSP expenses, Rs10 million for storm-water drains and Rs2 million for street lights.
Voicing concern over the loss of lives in train-related accidents, he said that the town has allocated Rs0.5 million for constructing safe passages over the level crossings.
Listing the priorities of the Town, he said that these include provision of clean water and improving sewerage system for which Rs1.700 million have been earmarked in the fiscal 2006-07.
Reiterating to make Shah Faisal a model town of the city, Mr Imran said that owing to a number of measures taken by the town in a short span of seven months, the town administration had succeeded in ensuring cleanliness on its streets, controlling street crimes, besides ensuring religious harmony in the town.
Town Naib Nazim Ali Akbar, Town Municipal Officer Syed Barkaat Rizvi, other senior officials and UC nazims and naib nazims were also present on the occasion.
