ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court is set to hear applications on Tuesday to suspend the sentences of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the £190 million National Accountability Bureau case after proceedings were postponed a day earlier due to the bench’s unavailability.

A division bench led by Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfaraz Dogar had been scheduled to take up the matter on Monday. However, the court’s cause list was cancelled after the chief justice attended a meeting of the National Judicial Policy Making Committee.

As a result, the applications filed by Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), and Bushra Bibi were not heard.

At an earlier hearing, prosecutors had indicated readiness to present arguments on the main appeal. The court had directed Khan’s lawyer to seek instructions from his client, while defence counsel Salman Safdar filed an additional application requesting that Bushra Bibi’s plea be heard first.

Speaking to reporters outside the court, PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan said the party had approached the high court for the 24th time without relief. He emphasised the need for timely justice, warning that delays of more than 14 months risk increasing public frustration and tensions.
