The US president says his administration “sent guns” in an attempt to help protesters in Iran taking part in mass anti-government demonstrations earlier this year, Al Jazeera reports.

“They were supposed to go to the people so they could fight back,” Trump says.

He has followed up by adding that the guns were kept by “a group of people” without specifying who he was referring to.
