MANSEHRA: Two brothers died, and five other members of a family fell unconscious after they consumed poisonous herbs during a visit to the alpine tourist resort of Punja Galli in Oghi tehsil.

“Condition of three women and two men, who were shifted to a nearby health facility, is still critical, while bodies of two brothers have been handed over to the family,” a local health department official told reporters in Oghi on Saturday.

Seven members of a family had travelled to the Punja Galli tourist resort from Phagora village.

They prepared a meal from local herbs collected during the trip, and fell unconscious after eating it.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Ibrar and his brother, Mohammad Waqar, both in their early 30s.

The other family members were hospitalised and given treatment, including abdominal wash, but their condition remained critical.

Mohammad Sajid, a resident, asked the government to initiate a drive to educate people against consuming unknown herbs without proper knowledge to prevent such incidents.

Meanwhile, the Shinkiari police have arrested five accused in connection with the murder of two women after a local court cancelled their pre-arrest bail.

Additional district and sessions judge Abdul Hassan Mehmood cancelled the pre-arrest bail of Shahzad Ghazi, Ghaffar Ali, Mahaz Ali, Azan Ali, and Saddam Hussain, and sent them to jail on a 16-day judicial remand.

The accused had allegedly killed the wives of Sohrab Khan and his brother, Aqil Khan, in the Dodial area.

The Shinkiari police had registered an FIR against all five accused under relevant sections of the law.
