Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has said Tehran is open to bilateral diplomacy with neighbours.

Speaking to Al Jazeera Arabic, he said Iran has prepared for this confrontation and proven its ability to defend itself.

Ghalibaf said Iran was forced to target US bases and interests in the region to preserve its presence, adding that countries of the region can secure their interests through bilateral and multilateral security agreements without foreign interference.

However, he warned that escalating tensions against Iran will be met with a decisive and broad response against US interests in the region.

The main drivers of insecurity in the region must be removed, and security must be built without the US and Israel, the speaker stressed.
