Town budget approved

FAISALABAD, June 26: The Iqbal Town Municipal Administration approved the annual surplus budget of Rs350 million for the year 2006-07 with Rs100 million for development purposes.

Town nazim Sajjad Haider Cheema, presenting the budget document before the house on Monday, said out of Rs100 million for development purposes, Rs25 million would be spent through schemes and projects of town members while the remaining amount would be spent on mega projects both in rural and urban areas.

He said Rs5 million had been allocated for the uplift and beautification of gardens and greenbelts, Rs2 million for the construction of a new slaughterhouse, Rs2 million for a modern general bus stand in Dijkot, Rs1 million for bus stops on various roads and Rs1 million for new filth depots.

He said a lucrative amount had been earmarked for the construction of a fruit and vegetable market, installation of streetlights and pavements of roads and streets.

He said the Punjab government had been approached for a big amount as special grant for the town.

The house approved the budget with a majority.
