FAISALABAD, June 26: A man subjected his wife to severe physical torture on Sunday night in Ghareebabad locality, injuring her both eyes to punish her for seeking court’s help in a domestic dispute.

Reports said a divorced woman, Nasreen Bibi, was married off to one Azam Khan, who was already married. The couple started living in a rented house in Ghareebabad. However, a year ago, Azam left the house and again started living with his first wife in the same locality.

Meanwhile, Nasreen approached a civil court and sought daily expenses from her husband to make both ends meet. The matter was decided in Nasreen’s favour a week ago, and Azam assured the court that he would bear the expenses.

On Sunday night, Azam called Nasreen to his first wife’s house and started beating him severely. He also attacked her with a knife. As a result of the torture, Nasreen’s eyes got injured.

She also sustained serious injuries to her head and other body parts. She was rushed to the DHQ Hospital for medical aid by some area residents.

Doctors at the hospital’s Eye Ward said that one of the eyes of the woman had been completely damaged because of torture, while the other would be operated upon on Tuesday (today). The chances of her complete recovery, they said, were, however, bleak.

Nasreen’s relatives said they had filed an application with the Factory Area police for registration of a case against Azam but they (police) had yet to take action against the accused.
