The US Central Command says the US military was not responsible for an attack on a sports hall and residential area in the city of Lamerd, Iran, on February 28, Al Jazeera reports.
Central Command Spokesperson Tim Hawkins said the military had looked into the incident following reports from “several media outlets” and had “confirmed the accusations are false”.
His remarks came a day after the New York Times published an investigation into the attack, finding that “it involved a weapon that had been untested in combat” that was also “bearing the hallmarks of a newly developed US-made ballistic missile”.
