LAHORE: Captain Fatima Sana’s all-round performance led Conquerors to a 16-run win over Challengers in the National Women’s T20 Tournament match here at the Ghani Glass Cricket Ground on Tuesday.
Batting first, Conquerors scored a massive 241-5 — the highest-ever total in Pakistan women’s T20 history — off the stipulated overs.
They surpassed the previous record of 233-0, set by Lahore against Peshawar in their National Women’s T20 Tournament match at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi in January 2024.
For Conquerors, Fatima top-scored with a blistering 91 which came off just 33 balls, and included 10 fours and six sixes. She in the process stitched an unbroken 112-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Hafsa Khalid (23 not out off 24 balls).
Ayesha Zafar, batting at number three also impressed with a 22-ball 57 while hitting nine fours and two sixes.
For Challengers, Arijah Haseeb picked up two wickets for 42.
In reply, Eyman Fatima, who made her T20I debut for Pakistan last year, scored a valiant 112 off 57 balls, including 14 fours and five sixes, to keep Challengers in contention. She was well supported by wicket-keeper/batter Sidra Nawaz, who scored 60 off 32 balls with the aid of nine fours and one six.
Following the dismissal of both set batters, Challengers finished on 225 for six of their 20 overs.
For Conquerors, Fatima bagged three wickets for 33 in four overs, and was named player-of-the-match.
In the day’s second match, Sidra Amin’s unbeaten half-century helped Stars beat Strikers by 54 runs at the Bagh-e-Jinnah Ground.
Opting to bat first, Stars posted 158 for six in 20 overs with Sidra Amin cracking a 38-ball 62 laced with seven fours and two sixes. For Strikers, Quratulain and Umm-e-Hani took two wickets each.
In response, Strikers’ batting crumbled and they could only post a paltry 104 before getting dismissed in 17.5 overs.
Laiba Nasir was the standout bowler with three wickets, while Aleesa Mukhtiar and Neha Sharmin Nadeem claimed two wickets apiece. Sidra Amin earned the player-of-the-match honours.
On Thursday, Stars take on Invincibles at Bagh-e-Jinnah, while Strikers face Conquerors at the Ghani Glass Cricket Ground.
