ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has emphasised efficient and judicious use of national resources in order to save the national exchequer.

He stated that savings generated through the austerity campaign will help reduce the burden on the country’s financial position.

He further highlighted that elected representatives have set a precedent for the nation by voluntarily reducing their salaries. He expressed these views in a meeting with Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Senior officers from the Federal Board of Revenue and the Ministry of Law and Parliamentary Affairs at the Parliament House, here on Thursday.

The meeting focused on the ongoing austerity policy being implemented as per the directions of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, as well as detailed discussions on the process of Federal Budget for Fiscal Year 2026–2027.

During the meeting, the Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb appreciated the austerity measures undertaken by the National Assembly Secretariat under the leadership of the Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, terming these a commendable example of prudent financial management and reduction in government expenditures.

NA Speaker underscored the importance of extending the austerity drive to other institutions to further alleviate financial pressure on the national treasury. He also lauded the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for making timely decisions during challenging circumstances, which helped steer the country away from a major crisis.

Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, also appreciated the Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq’s austerity initiatives. He stressed that, given the prevailing regional situation, every citizen must actively contribute to the austerity campaign.

Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq reaffirmed full cooperation with the Ministry of Finance for the upcoming budget 2026-2027 session and emphasised the importance of close coordination between the National Assembly Secretariat and the Ministry of Finance to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the budget session for the next fiscal year.
