According to Iran’s Tasnim news agency, officials and analysts have urged Tehran to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) framework, claiming it has “yielded no tangible benefits” in pursuit of peaceful nuclear energy and exposed facilities to “espionage and sabotage by adversaries”.

The NPT was signed in 1968 and entered into force in 1970, to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and promote the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and disarmament.
