Oil prices have surged 5 per cent amid reports of backchannel negotiations between the US and Iran, Al Jazeera reports.

International benchmark, Brent North Sea crude, jumped by 5.2pc to $107.54 per barrel. The main US oil contract, West Texas Intermediate, also advanced 4.9pc to $94.71.
