Masood Khan, a former Pakistani ambassador to the US and UN, has termed Pakistan a lead mediator with a unique positioning amid the US-Israeli war on Iran.

“It has earned credentials for that role by adopting equidistant posture in the present war. Last June, at the request of the US, Pakistan advanced sensitive diplomatic conversations between Washington and Tehran in the midst of war,” Masood told Al Jazeera.

“Pakistan’s constructive role at that time was publicly acknowledged by Rubio. Pakistan has deepened its relations with the US by joining the Board of Peace. It has good relations with Iran, and it is a close ally of the Gulf countries,” he was quoted as saying.

“It enjoys a degree of trust in a very complex scenario, which no other country does,” the former envoy highlighted.
