Israel’s permanent representative to the United Nations has accused Iran of using missiles with a far greater range than Tehran has confirmed, claiming that these missiles could strike European capitals.
“Just weeks ago, the Iranian foreign minister … was asked directly whether Iran has missiles with a range beyond 2000 kilometres,” Ambassador Danny Danon has told a press stakeout.
“He looked the world in the eye and said … ‘We don’t have those. We have intentionally kept the range of our missiles below 2,000km so we don’t have that capability,’” Danon added, quoting Iran’s top diplomat Abbas Araghchi. “‘We don’t want to do that, because we don’t have any hostility against the United States’ people or Europeans whatsoever.’”
Calling Araghchi’s comments “a blatant lie”, Danon said Iran launched missiles nearly 4,000km towards Diego Garcia, an island in the Indian Ocean hosting a join US-UK military base
He also showed a map of the Iranian missiles’ reported range, claiming that they can reach Paris, London, Athens, Copenhagen and Riga.
“If it (range) has doubled once, it can double again, from 4,000 to 8,000km,” Danon added. “This is not just another attack; this is proof that shows the regime has developed far longer-range capabilities than many were willing to admit.”
