Qatar is closely watching out for further attacks by Iran after the air strikes on its Ras Laffan liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility, an official says.

“We are currently focused on defending our country and addressing the situation following the LNG attacks. We are not currently engaged in any mediation efforts,” a Qatari diplomat tells Al Jazeera, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The Ras Laffan complex, 80 kilometres northeast of Doha, is the world’s largest LNG production facility and produces about 20 per cent of the global LNG supply, playing a major role in balancing both Asian and European markets’ demand for the fuel.
