Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said Iran is prepared to ensure safe passage for countries such as Japan if they coordinate with Tehran, according to Kyodo News.

Araghchi said the issue of Japanese vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz was discussed in his recent talks with his Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi.

Noting that discussions were continuing, he said the details cannot be disclosed.

Araghchi, who Kyodo notes was a former ambassador to Japan, has held phone talks with FM Motegi twice since the attacks on Iran were launched on February 28.
