LAHORE: A judicial magistrate on Tuesday summoned prosecution witnesses in a case related to the charge of viral circulation of a fake video of Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari on social media.

Magistrate Naeem Wattoo conducted the hearing when PTI social media activist Falak Javed and other suspects were produced before the court from jail.

The magistrate directed the prosecution to produce its witnesses at the next hearing so that their statements could be recorded.

The hearing was adjourned till March 24.

The NCCIA had registered a case on Ms Bokhari’s complaint against the circulation of a fake video. The magistrate had earlier dismissed an application of the provincial minister, seeking permission to record her statement as complainant via a video link.

An appeal by the minister against the dismissal of her plea is pending before a sessions court.

Separately, a sessions court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of a cybercrime case against PTI social media activist Sanam Javed till March 17. She was brought to the court from jail for the hearing of the case.

The court directed the prosecution to furnish copies of the challan and other documents to the suspect so that formal trial proceedings could be started.

The NCCIA had registered the case against Sanam for sharing hate posts against the heads of state institutions.
