GUJRANWALA, June 20: The newly appointed district police officer has restored Rescue-15 service in and around the city and changed the mode of investigation at police stations. His predecessor had wound up the service.

Speaking at his first news conference at his office here on Tuesday, DPO Mian Muhammad Asif said no false FIRs would be registered now.

He said the police would conduct an inquiry against accused before registration of case. He said the new investigation method would provide relief and help to those who got interim bail from courts.

Mr Asif claimed that hassle-free registration of cases would be ensured at police stations.

He expressed the hope that crime rate could be reduced with the cooperation of people.

He also sought proposals from journalists for elimination of crime and maintenance of law and order.

EXECUTION: Two condemned prisoners involved in a double murder case will be hanged on Wednesday (today) while the jail authority arranged their last meeting with heirs on Tuesday.

Reports said that convicts Abdul Rashid and Muhammad Rafiq had killed their cousins Imtiaz and Muhammad Ashiq over an old enmity in Peoples Colony a few years back. A local court had handed them down the death sentence while the Lahore High Court and the apex court upheld the decision. The president had also rejected their clemency appeal.

Issuing their death warrants, the court had directed the jail authority to hang them on June 21.

ROBBERY: Robbers looted an army officer on GT Road at Sadhoki on Tuesday.

Reports said PAF Rawalpindi wing commander Muhammad Afzal was on his way along with his family by his car. Near Sadhoki, four outlaws intercepted them and made off with cash and valuables.
