Plan to reconstruct 183 key roads finalised

KARACHI: The Sindh government has finalised the Karachi Special Road Rehabilitation Programme aimed at reconstructing 183 roads within the jurisdictions of various town municipal corporations (TMCs).

A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah to finalise the plan.

During the meeting, Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab briefed the participants that these 183 roads played a vital role in managing the city’s traffic flow, serving as major arteries and alternative routes that cater to thousands of commuters daily.

Minister Shah directed the municipal commissioner to expedite all necessary procedures and immediately launch the tendering process to ensure swift execution of the initiative.

He emphasised that the project will significantly contribute to the rehabilitation of Karachi’s infrastructure and improve civic facilities for residents across the city.

The mayor further informed the meeting that, following the successful rehabilitation of roads, solarisation of streetlights will also be undertaken.

He noted that this step will be implemented in line with the successful model of Sharea Faisal, where solar-powered streetlights have produced encouraging results in terms of energy efficiency, cost reduction and improved illumination.
