Cop booked for ‘destroying’ murder case forensic report
SAHIWAL: Ghalla Mandi police have registered a case against a sub-inspector, who, as an investigation officer (IO), allegedly destroyed the forensic report and other record related to a case of a woman’s murder.
According to police sources, on August 27, 2024, a woman, Misbah Bibi, was murdered allegedly by her in-laws in Sharif Colony, Sahiwal city.
A murder case was registered against her brother-in-law, Waris Ali, and sister-in-law, Nargis. The forensic evidence related to the murder case was sent tothe Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA), Lahore, for analysis, but the lab report was delayed, prompting the complainant to approach the court for its issuance by the PFSA.
The report was eventually received on court orders and handed over to Riazul Haq, the reader at the Ghalla Mandi police station, on December 9, 2024, the sources say.
They say that Riaz later passed the report to Sub-Inspector (SI) Nisar Ahmad, the investigation officer (IO) of the case.
The complainant alleged that SI Nisar Ahmad colluded with the accused party and destroyed the forensic report, along with other case record.
The victim’s family subsequently approached the regional police office, who ordered an inquiry into the the matter.
In the inquiry, the Regional Investigation Branch found SI Nisar Ahmad guilty and ordered registration of a case against him.
Accordingly, the police registered a case under Section 155-C of the Police Order against Nisar on the complaint of Inspector Saeemur Rehman, without arresting the SI, who is reportedly serving in Sahiwal traffic police.
