DATA REGISTRATION

DATA REGISTRATION: Many parents are unable to register the birth of their children in a timely manner due to the absence of relevant officials, complicated procedures and limited financial resources. A coordinated system between basic health units (BHUs) and union councils (UCs) can resolve the issue. Digitally transferring data from BHUs or hospitals to UCs at the start of the vaccination process can ensure systematic birth registration. A coordinated software connecting BHUs, hospitals and UCs, linked to the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), can enhance transparency, improve record accuracy, and ensure data digitalisation. Such a system is what is urgently needed.

CIVIC PROBLEMS: The internal roads and paver blocks in Defence View Phase-1 are severely damaged. Particularly, the service road from the KPT Interchange to Junejo Town is in a pathetic state. This road also provides access to the main campus of a private university. The area has been deprived of regular water supply for several years. There is no regular fumigation to control flies and mosquitoes. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and town committee of Chanessar Town have failed to ensure cleaning of drains and sewers through suction machines. Due to the absence of essential services, the residents continue to suffer.

ELITE TRAINS: I recently had the opportunity to travel on two of Pakistan Railway’s elite trains. Unfortunately, both trains were delayed by more than two-and-a-half hours each. Furthermore, the quality of meals served was below acceptable standards. The breakfast was accompanied by cold tea, and the lunch/dinner provided was of such poor quality that most passengers returned their meals untouched. If this is the state of service on the so-called ‘elite trains’, I can only imagine the quality of service being provided on other trains. There is an urgent need of a shift in mindset.
