Commissioner wants BBH to improve services

RAWALPINDI: Commissioner Abdul Aamer Khattak on Monday asked Benazir Bhutto Hospital to improve services as per the vision of Punjab government.

He stated this during his visit to Benazir Bhutto Hospital. The additional deputy commissioner (general), Director Health Dr Ejaz, assistant commissioner city, medical superintendent BBH and other officials concerned were also present.

During the visit, the commissioner conducted a detailed review of various departments of the hospital, particularly the emergency department.

He interacted with patients in the OPD and wards, as well as their attendants and inquired about the healthcare facilities being provided at the hospital.

The commissioner directed that state-of-the-art facilities be ensured in all wards, especially in the emergency department.

He instructed the medical superintendent to ensure that no patient was required to purchase medicines from outside the hospital. Adequate stocks of all essential medicines must be maintained and provided to patients free of cost.

He further directed that demands for medicines and supplies be submitted to the director health well in advance. He also emphasised that announcements regarding the availability of free medicines, made at the registration counter, should also be conveyed in the wards so that all patients were properly informed.

Mr Khattak said it was the government’s responsibility to provide quality healthcare facilities to the public. He affirmed that in light of the directions of the Punjab chief minister, all possible measures would be taken to ensure the provision of quality medical services.

He also instructed the hospital administration to further improve cleanliness standards.

Seeking suggestions from doctors for enhancing healthcare delivery, he remarked that the medical profession served humanity by caring for those in distress, which was both a service and an act of worship.

He said the purpose of his regular visits to hospitals was to ensure the prompt resolution of issues and to make quality healthcare facilities accessible to the common man.
