KARACHI: A sessions court has acquitted a woman in a case pertaining to possession of 12 kilogrammes of hashish.

Additional District and Sessions Judge (West) Ghulam Farooq acquitted Zarina, observing that the prosecution had miserably failed to establish the case against her beyond the shadow of any reasonable doubt.

The court noted that the prosecution witnesses, during their cross-examination, admitted that despite prior information, the police did not include a private witness at the time of the arrest, recovery and during the inspection proceedings.

It observed that the recovery of the narcotic substance in question from the possession of the accused had become doubtful and the accused was entitled to the benefit of doubt.

According to the prosecution, acting on a tip-off, during patrolling, the police had apprehended the accused in February 2025. During the search, the police had allegedly recovered 12 packets of chars from her possession. As per the digital scale, each packet’s weight was found to be one kilogramme and in total, 12kg.
