Five cops held for links with drug dealer in Gujranwala
GUJRAT: Gujranwala police claimed on Friday to have arrested five police officials for their alleged links to a notorious drug dealer, Sajid alias Saju Khan, who was killed in the “firing by his own accomplices” last week.
The action has been taken as part of an internal accountability drive launched by City Police Officer (CPO) Dr Ghias Gul Khan.
The arrested policemen include sub-inspector (SI ) Shamim Ahmed, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Asif and constables Imran, Shahid Adnan and Yaseen.
A spokesman for Gujranwala police says the cases had been lodged against these police officials at different police stations of the district, including Gakhar Mandi, Wazirabad Saddar, Ahmed Nagar and Gujranwala Cantonment.
He says the action has been taken in the light of forensic analysis of the data of personal mobile phones of Saju Khan, which showed the arrested policemen were involved in leaking sensitive information, as well as backing the drug dealer, using their official position.
He says a huge quantity of hashish has also been recovered from the arrested policemen, adding that further investigation was underway.
ARRESTED: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claimed to have arrested two illegal money changers from Dinga town during an ongoing crackdown on those running Hundi, Hawala (illegal money transaction) networks in Gujranwala region.
As per a senior FIA official, a Gujrat circle team raided a place near Makkah Marriage Hall, Kharian Road, Dinga, arresting suspects Umer and Atif Raza.
