The project, scheduled for completion by May 30, 2026, also includes the construction of arch walls, building facade improvements, installation of tuff tiles, benches, street lights, Victorian-style lights, dust bins, planters and the beautification of entrance points.
This was informed during the visit of Commissioner Abdul Aamer Khattak to the ongoing beautification and construction project at Raja Bazaar. He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema.
During the visit, he reviewed the progress of development works, quality standards, pace of construction and safety arrangements. The commissioner emphasised that Raja Bazaar represents the historic and commercial identity of the city; therefore, the beautification work must be completed in line with modern urban requirements while preserving the local culture and historical character.
He stated that periodic site visits are aimed at ensuring the quality and timely completion of work through continuous monitoring. He directed that the use of high-quality materials in all construction activities be strictly ensured. Public convenience must remain the top priority.
During construction, alternative pathways should be arranged for pedestrians and shopkeepers, and all out efforts must be made to minimise disruption to business activities in the market. Highlighting the importance of safety measures, the Commissioner instructed that the use of safety gear, helmets, and jackets be made mandatory for all workers.
Clear signboards, barriers, and adequate nighttime lighting must be arranged at construction sites to prevent any untoward incidents. Mr Khattak further stated that the Raja Bazaar Beautification Project will play a significant role in transforming the area into a beautiful, safe, and well-organised commercial hub, benefiting both the public and the business community.
During the briefing, it was informed that under the beautification project, utility lines, including Iesco, Wasa, SNGPL and PTCL, are being shifted underground in Raja Bazaar. Chief Officer Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation and other relevant officials were also present during the site visit.
