Water shortage hits city after 72-inch pipe bursts again

THATTA: For the fourth time in the last 15 days, the bursting of a 72-inch diameter main pipeline has halted the water supply to several areas of Karachi, resulting in the waste of thousands of gallons of water.

The incident occurred on Sunday following a power breakdown at the Dhabeji pumping station, which caused the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board’s Line No 5 to burst. As a result of this failure, four pumps at the pumping station also shut down.

The water corporation administration has issued a statement on this crisis, confirming that repair work is underway. A spokesperson for the corporation has assured that the work is expected to be completed within 24 hours, after which the water supply to the affected areas of the city will be restored.
