Electric bus service launched in Rahim Yar Khan

RAHIM YAR KHAN: Punjab government launched eco-friendly electric bus services in the city at a ceremony held at the Abbasia Sports Complex here on Thursday.

The e-bus service was jointly inaugurated by Punjab Minister for Transport Bilal Akbar and Minister for Communication and Works (C&W) Sohaib Ahmed Bharth.

The launching ceremony was also attended by Bahawalpur Commissioner Musarrat Jabeen, Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Anwar Jappa, MPA Begum Ishrat Ashraf, Chaudhry Mahmood Ahmed and representatives of the civil society, business community.

On the occasion, Mr Bharth said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif believes in the development of every district of the province, regardless of the vote bank.

He said the scope of the electric buses is being extended to tehsils as well.

The minister said that in the first phase, 18 electric buses are being operated on four routes in Rahim Yar Khan, while eight more buses will soon be added to the service.

He said these buses are equipped with special facilities for persons with special needs using wheelchairs.

Mr Bilal Akbar said the youth should conduct research instead of believing in misleading social media reports to know who is actually serving the country.

He added that the chief minister has placed an order for 1,500 more electric buses, which will operate not only in big cities, but also in tehsils.
