NAWABSHAH: Traffic on the main railway track was suspended after 10 bogies of a goods train derailed at Deparja crossing near Mehrabpur on Monday.
The train was heading towards Punjab from Karachi when at least 10 bogies derailed near Mehrabpur.
According to reports, five of the bogies overturned which blocked both up and down tracks after which railway traffic was suspended and a number of trains were stopped at different stations.
But no human loss was reported.
A relief train from Rohri later reached the accident spot for clearance of the track.
Pakistan Railways Sukkur Deputy Superintendent Jamshed Alam told reporters on the site that the detached and overturned bogies would be removed from the tracks in the first instance after which repair work would be carried out to clear at least one track so that the halted trains might get passed for their destinations.
He said the clearance of the track and restoration of railway traffic might take eight to ten hours.
Railway sources informed that more than five to ten foot of iron plates were badly damaged and detached from the tracks due to the accident. A number of trains were stranded at various railway stations at the time of filing of this report.
