Pacers put Wapda in command against SNGPL

LAHORE: Wapda tightened their grip on the President’s Trophy final as pacers Naqeebullah and Mohammad Zeeshan shared six wickets to leave Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) struggling at 110 for nine at stumps on the second day at the Gaddafi Stadium on Monday.

Resuming on their overnight score of 233 for six, Wapda were bowled out for 265 in 82.1 overs, losing their last four wickets for 28 runs. Bismillah Khan completed his 25th first-class half-century before being dismissed for 56 by Shahzad Gul.

Aamir Jamal led SNGPL’s bowling effort with figures of four for 67, while Shahzad claimed three for 69 and Shahnawaz Dahani took two for 33.

In reply, SNGPL were rocked by early blows and never recovered, reaching 110 for nine in 42 overs when bad light forced an early close, an hour before the scheduled end of play.

Opening batter Azan Awais top-scored with a patient 48 off 117 deliveries, hitting seven boundaries. Skipper Mohammad Rizwan was the only other batter to reach double figures, scoring 15.

Zeeshan removed Azan in the 41st over and also accounted for Abdul Samad and Mohammad Awais Zafar, while Naqeebullah bowled with control to finish with three for 20 from 15 overs, including seven maidens. Aqib Khan chipped in with two for 23 and Akif Javed took one wicket.

SNGPL trail by 155 runs with one wicket remaining in their first innings.
