ISLAMABAD: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Monday visited the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) and urged the federal government to announce financial assistance for the families of the deceased and injured.

It is worth mentioning that the attack occurred at Imambargah Qasr-i-Khadijatul Kubra in the Tarlai area on the outskirts of the city during Friday prayers.

Meanwhile, Faisal Karim Kundi reached Pims to inquire about the health of patients injured in the recent bomb blast.

Speaking to media persons, he said that terrorists had first attacked inside a mosque in Islamabad and later in Waziristan. He said that those claiming to speak for an Islamic system were targeting Muslims inside mosques, without realising that such acts were against Islam.

Mr Kundi said that after losing a war against Pakistan, India had activated such elements to destabilise the country. He said the world had recognised Pakistan’s victory and that, under the leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir, the Pakistan Army was ensuring the protection of the people.

He urged the federal government to announce a relief package for the injured and also called upon Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to form a committee comprising federal ministers to address the issue.

Mr Kundi paid rich tribute to Aoun Abbas, who risked his life to stop the suicide bomber. He demanded that the government announce the Sitara-i-Imtiaz award for the martyr to recognise his bravery.

He said he would write a letter to the prime minister to ensure better medical treatment for the injured and proper care for their families.

Federal Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal conveyed his heartfelt condolences, saying, “I am with you in this time of grief.”

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi Commissioner Abdul Aamer Khattak visited Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) to inquire about the condition of individuals injured in the Islamabad blast. Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema, Assistant Commissioner City, Director Health Dr Ijaz, MS BBH and other officers were also present on the occasion.

According to officials, five injured persons from the Imambargah Khadijat-ul-Kubra suicide attack were under treatment at Benazir Bhutto Hospital, out of whom one has recovered and been discharged. The commissioner directed the medical superintendent to ensure the best possible medical treatment and provision of all necessary facilities for the injured.

Later, he conducted a detailed inspection of various departments of the hospital, particularly the emergency ward and the newly established registration counter set up by the medical superintendent.

The commissioner also visited the outpatient department and other wards, interacted with patients, and asked their attendants about the healthcare facilities being provided.

He stated that all essential medicines were available in sufficient quantities and were being provided free of cost to patients. He directed that announcements regarding the availability of free medicines be made at registration counters and also in the wards.

He said that providing quality healthcare facilities to the public was the administration’s responsibility and that, in line with the directives of the Punjab chief minister, quality medical services would be ensured. He emphasised that no negligence in the provision of medical facilities would be tolerated and directed the hospital administration to further improve cleanliness conditions.

While seeking suggestions from doctors for improving healthcare services, he said that the medical profession serves humanity by alleviating the suffering of people and is a noble service. He added that patients come to BBH from far-flung areas for treatment, and all possible measures would be taken to ensure they receive quality medical care.
