Fiji to host Commonwealth law ministers

ISLAMABAD: Fiji is set to welcome law ministers and attorneys general, including delegates from Pakistan, to the Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting, will open on Feb 9 in Nadi.

According to an announcement by the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Feb 9-12 meeting “takes place at a time when the rule of law is steadily declining around the world”. The World Justice Project (WJP) had earlier reported that the rule of law recession was accelerating. The rule of law declined in 68pc of countries in 2025, compared to 57pc in 2024 and 59pc in 2023.

Over the three days, law ministers will discuss how strong legal safeguards protect everyday life, from people’s ability to participate in democracy and earn a fair living to their right to live in safe and healthy communities. The meeting will be chaired by Fiji’s Minister for Justice and Acting Attorney-General, Siromi Turaga, under the theme ‘Anchoring Justice in a Changing Tide: Strengthening the Rule of Law for a Resilient Future’.
