Three members of swindlers’ gang held

BAHAWALPUR, June 14: The Baghdadul Jadid police on Wednesday arrested three persons for defrauding people on the pretext of establishing their businesses abroad.

According to the police, Chaudhry Khalid of Layyah, Col Sultan Malik (retd) and Masood of Multan had given hundreds of thousands of rupees to a local firm that promised them all possible assistance in setting up their businesses in Dubai.

After their payment, ring leader Hafiz Akram disappeared and left the aspirants in a fix. They reported the matter to the police which registered three cases under sections 489 (forgery), 406 and 6/34 of PPC and arrested Rana Naveed, Haji Naseem and Muhammad Ajmal. A lawyer is also among the nominated accused.

POs: The police claimed on Wednesday to have arrested 1,500 proclaimed offenders during a campaign launched in the past five months in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan.

EXECUTION: Two convicts were hanged until death at the new central jail on Wednesday. They were Maqbool of Chishtian and Jahangir of Minchinabad.

Meanwhile, the execution of Shafqat Abbas, Niaz and Ibrahim was postponed for 15 days on the orders of the president.

UPLIFT: More than Rs30 million were being spent on the uplift projects of 27 union councils in Bahawalpur city.

This was stated by city tehsil nazim Malik Zahid Mahmood Channar on Wednesday.

He said women and minority councillors had also been provided development funds of over Rs15 million to carry out their recommended schemes.
