RAWALPINDI: Police have been directed to further strengthen the security of Chinese nationals and other foreigners working on CPEC and non-CPEC projects, enhance surveillance of sensitive locations, and ensure law and order situation across the Rawalpindi division.

These directives were issued during a monthly meeting of the Regional Police Coordination Committee, held at Police Lines Headquarters and chaired by Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawal­pindi, Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani.

The meeting reviewed the overall law and order situation in the region, securi­ty arrangements ahead of Ramadan, crime prevention measures, effective policing strategies, protection of Chinese citizens and other foreigners deployed on CPEC and non-CPEC projects, surveillance of sensitive installations, and challenges faced by various police departments.

On the occasion, the RPO instructed all districts and units to maintain effective inter-departmental communication, upgrade policing standards in line with modern requirements, ensure implementation of the proposed standard operating procedures (SOPs) for registration of FIRs, conduct investigation on merit, sub­­mit challans to courts in a timely manner, and ensure punishment of offenders.

He further directed that the crackdown against kite flying be intensified and the ongoing operation against drug dealers continue with effective investigations. A workshop was also ordered for investigation officers of the Rawalpindi region to familiarise them with the proposed procedures and SOPs for submitting parcels to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) to eliminate legal loopholes.

The meeting was also instructed to take action against illegal foreigners in accordance with the law, accelerate search and combing operations across the region, ensure prompt redressal of complaints received through the complaint portal, and make special security arra­ng­ements for Taraweeh prayers and other religious gatherings during Ramazan.

The RPO further emphasised that, in view of the prevailing weather conditions in Murree, arrangements for tourist guidance, traffic management, and public safety should be further improved. He reiterated that the protection of life and property of citizens remains the top priority of the police, which will remain fully alert to deal with any untoward situation.

The establishment of the Regional Police Coordination Committee has significantly improved coordination among all institutions, which is vital for effective policing and maintaining law and order.

In light of the recommendations presented in the meeting, future steps and an action plan were also finalised.
