HARIPUR: The chairperson of Benazir Income Support Programme, Senator Rubina Khalid, has said that to ensure more transparencyin the BISP the digital accounts of 10 million women beneficiarieswere being created to help them receive money through mobile phones.
She expressed these views while addressing the Sinf-i-Ahan Conference held at the Haripur Chamber of Commerce and Industry here the other day.
“One crore families of destitutesare benefiting from the Benazir Income Support Programme across the country and disbursement of financial support to registered women beneficiaries would prove to be an important milestone of this programme,” she claimed talking to the mixed audience of PPP’s workers, industrialists, traders and women from all walks of life.
Talking about the steps being taken to empower women economically, Ms Khalid said that along with BISP,the Benazir Hunarmand Programme has also been launched, which was also a gift for skilled women as the skilled women were an invaluable asset of the country and would contribute to economic development.
Listing the ongoing initiatives that were being undertaken by the BISP, she said that educational scholarships and women development were part of the efforts to empower women in line with the vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. She claimed that the Benazir Income Support Programme had given autonomy, awareness and identity to women and has brought them to the mainstream. She assured the audience that the steps would be taken to solve women’s problems to help them contribute to the development of the country. She announced the registration of women for BISP and women related development programmes from the chamber’s platform with the help of Nadra.
