LAHORE, June 13: University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences vice-chancellor Prof Dr Manzoor Ahmad has said the university has set up modern laboratories and academic facilities of international standard to ensure quality education and research on the campus.

He was speaking at a function arranged by the Teaching Staff Association (TSA) to acknowledge the services of the faculty and other staff for successfully holding first convocation of the university.

Dr Ahmad said the quality of research being done in the university could be judged from the fact that the American universities had now started sending their students to the UVAS for internship. A student from the Washington State University Pullman, Washington, was these days doing his two-month internship at the UVAS.

In the past, he said, Pakistanis used to go to abroad for education and research. However, the time had changed and students from the US were coming to Pakistan for internships and research.

On the instructions of President Gen Musharraf, the VC said, the university would create awareness among people to make them animal-friendly. The president had stated at the convocation that Pakistanis were not animal-friendly.

Prof Dr Muhammad Irfan said the UVAS graduates were getting jobs in and out of the country, which proved that the university was imparting quality education.

TSA president Prof Dr Khalid Pervez also spoke on the occasion.
