NAROWAL: A student of a private medical institute attempted suicide by jumping off the second floor of the institute’s building.
Mehwish Ashraf, 20, a student of the Al-Shifa Medical Institute Health Sciences, Shakargarh Road, Narowal, jumped off the second storey and received critical injuries to her head, legs and parts of the body.
She was immediately shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, Narowal, where doctors referred her to the Lahore General Hospital due to her critical condition. According to hospital sources, there was writing on the student’s arm that she was committing suicide of her own free will.
Eyewitnesses said Mehwish was standing in the sunlight on the second floor when she brought a chair to sit. While talking to her friends, she suddenly put her foot on the chair and jumped down.
The administration of the medical institute refused to comment on the incident.
Asim Atiq, deputy director Colleges, said the reason for the suicide attempt was not yet known.
Talking to the media, Narowal District Police Officer Naveed Malik said that according to initial information, the student attempted suicide due to domestic problems. He said the police were conducting a detailed investigation into the incident.
Deputy Commissioner Tayyab Khan also sought a report.
ACCIDENT: Two persons died when their motorcycle hit a loaded dumper at Daham Thal Bus Stop on the Zafarwal Road.
Harmat Ali, a spokesperson for Rescue 1122 Narowal, said that according to the caller, a loaded dumper from a brick kiln was traveling when a speeding motorcycle crashed into it. As a result of the hit, motorcycle riders, 70-year-old Abdul Rashid and 19-year-old Muhammad Ahmed, died on the spot.
The bodies were handed over to the family members.
