TOBA TEK SINGH: The government has decided to geotag manholes in Faisalabad in a bid to enhance monitoring, theft prevention and sewage management.
The project will map sewage and rainwater manholes in the city and assign a unique identification number and also gather its current condition, type of cover and digitally store an image. This information will be linked to a central digital dashboard through which immediate monitoring and timely action will be made possible.
Wasa Managing Director Saqib Raza said this historic project would improve public safety, promote evidence-based planning and modernise urban infrastructure. He clarified that the project would be completed through GIS tools without any additional financial burden. He said that for this, instructions were being issued to Wasa field teams.
PROTEST: Shopkeepers of Garh Mor Town in Ahmad Pur Sial tehsil of Jhang staged a protest demonstration on Tuesday against the Ahmad Pur Sial assistant commissioner over alleged inappropriate behaviour with traders.
They told reporters that the AC had sealed about 100 shops for not possessing approved construction plans from the Garh Maharaja MC. However, they claimed that he ignored the fact that the shops had been built around six decades ago, while the MC was established in 1980.
They claimed that scores of shopkeepers had been made unemployed in the name of anti-encroachment operations, and they now faced bureaucratic abuse in the name of unapproved construction plans and installing unauthorised flex.
ACCIDENT: An unidentified woman of 55 years of age was run over by a vehicle in the Nishatabad Police area on motorway M-4 in Faisalabad on Tuesday.
Police said the deceased woman was crossing the motorway and she was run over by an unknown vehicle. They said that her face was badly crushed and so far she could not be identified. Her body had been shifted to the Allied Hospital.
LIBRARY INAUGURATED: A state-of-the-art public library was inaugurated on Tuesday by Faisalabad Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar and DC Nadeem Nasir at Bagh Jinnah.
The library has been established under the auspices of the district administration.
During the inauguration, the commissioner and the DC visited various parts of the library and reviewed the seating arrangements and the books.
The commissioner said that the establishment of a library in the middle of the garden was a good step for the youth as the passion for reading books has not diminished in today’s digital age. He said that similar modern libraries would also be set up in other parks of the city.
He said that the library was unique from other traditional libraries as it provided a beautiful combination of modern design and natural environment. He said that sitting and studying inside the library would feel like sitting in a garden and citizens would get a calm and inspiring environment.
He said that effective steps would continue for the promotion of book reading to attract the new generation towards reading.
